Mantras, Healing Music and Sounds

Free downloads (as .mp3) of the most important Mantras:

Gayatri Mantra, Medicine Buddha Mantra and Ganesha Mantra

and Healing Music and Healing Sounds

From ancient times sound and music have always played

an important role in sacred and spiritual journeys.

From the trance inducing beat of the drum, used by many Shamans

till sacred sounds like Mantras.

In this section we will explore more about mantras, healing music and sounds.

We will look to it from different viewpoints, essentially expressing the same understanding.

General Introduction: Influence of music and sounds.

Buddhist Chants In English

There have been a lot of experiments on the influence of music, sounds, mantras and words on plants, animals, people and water. And for every one sensitive to the influence of music, sounds mantras and words it will be no surprise that harmonious classical music like that of Mozart and Beethoven or of harmonious new-age music like that of Deuter, words like “I love you” and natural sounds of the sea, whales etc have a benevolent influence. And the opposite has been the case with disharmonious music like heavy metal, sounds like traffic noise and words like “I hate you”.

In the mind expanding movie ‘What the Bleep do we know’ there are many enlightening examples about this. In this movie the famous pictures of water crystals of Prof. Emoto are also shown.

The essence of the Universe (Uni=one, verse=song) and vibrations

As you vibrate, the universe vibrates with you

The great Kundalini Yoga Master, Yogi Bhajan, once said, 'Every element of the universe is in a constant state of vibration manifested to us as light, sound, and energy.” The human senses perceive only a fraction of the infinite range of vibrations, so it is difficult to comprehend that the Word mentioned in the Bible is actually the totality of the vibration which underlie and sustains all creation. A person can tune his or her consciousness into the awareness of that totality with the use of a mantra. By vibrating in rhythm with the breath to a particular sound that is proportional to the creative sound, or sound current, one can expand one's sensitivity to the entire spectrum of vibrations. It is similar to striking a note on a stringed instrument. In other words:” as you vibrate, the universe vibrates with you.'

What is a mantra?

Mantra is the creative projection of the human mind through the form of sound. Man is mind and Trang is a projection or wave. This mind wave is a structure that has powerful effects on the human psyche and the chakras. Yogi Bhajan explained 'Mantras are formulas that alter the patterns of the mind and the chemistry of the brain, according to physical and metaphysical laws. The power of a mantra is in it sound vibration.'

Empowering a mantra

By empowering each mantra repetition with a breath cycle it is as if the power of the mantra is breathing though us affecting each and every cell. Elevating and altering the frequency of the energy we currently broadcast. Conscious or unconscious, we are constantly broadcasting a frequency. The question I have is: 'What message are you broadcasting?' Is it a message of stress and survival? Or is it one of peace, love, compassion, and kindness?

The profound effect of a mantra

Breathe deeply and give your body, the organs and the cells a chance to become empowered by prana, the breath. Enliven yourself and chant the ancient combination of words that have significant and profound effects on not only your body, mind, and soul but can affect all those around you, the planet, and even the neighboring star systems. Energy cannot be created or destroyed, it is simply transferred, thank you Sir Isaac Newton. Imagine that your words, once spoken, will ripple out into the universe FOREVER. Even although thoughts, the sound waves will decrease over time and become inaudible, it will in essence ripple through time and space for eons. So, let us allow the breath to enter us an please enjoy that silence you feel.

Uplifting all life

Karma, as the Buddhists tell me, is created through thinking, speaking, and acting. How about we just chant and let the vibrations of powerful mantras heal us and heal others. Let us hold our unruly and sometimes judgmental tongues and chant. Let us heal through our singing. Let us uplift all life in all galaxies and in all dimensions with mantras.

Let us remember we are multi-dimensional beings here

on a mission and do our part and fulfill our destinies.

One Love. Peace to you.

What Is a Mantra and How Does It Work

A saying from the Vedas claims that 'Speech is the essence of humanity.' All of what humanity thinks and ultimately becomes is determined by the expression of ideas and actions through speech and its derivative: writing. Everything, the Vedas maintain, comes into being through speech. Ideas remain unactualized until they are created through the power of speech. Similarly, The New Testament, Gospel of John, starts 'In the beginning was The Word. And the Word was with God and the Word was God...'

In mainstream Vedic practices, most Buddhist techniques and classical Hinduism, mantras are viewed as a necessity for spiritual advancement and high attainment. In The Kalachakra Tantra, the Dalai Lama states, 'Therefore, without depending upon mantra... Buddhahood cannot be attained.'

Clearly, there is a reason why such widely divergent sources of religious wisdom as the Vedas, the New Testament and the Dalai Lama speak in common ideas. Here are some important ideas about mantra which will enable you to begin a practical understanding of what mantra is and what it can do.

Mantras are energy-based sounds.

Saying any word produces an actual physical vibration. Over time, if we know what the effect of that vibration is, then the word may come to have meaning associated with the effect of saying that vibration or word. This is one level of energy basis for words.

Another level is intent. If the actual physical vibration is coupled with a mental intention, the vibration then contains an additional mental component which influences the result of saying it. The sound is the carrier wave and the intent is overlaid upon the wave form

In either instance, the word is based upon energy. Nowhere is this idea truer than for Sanskrit mantra. For although there is a general meaning which comes to be associated with mantras, the only lasting definition is the result or effect of saying or chanting the mantra.

Mantras create thought-energy waves

Mantras start a powerful vibration which corresponds to both a specific spiritual energy frequency and a state of consciousness in seed form. Over time, the mantra process begins to override all of the other smaller vibrations, which eventually become absorbed by the mantra. After a length of time which varies from individual to individual, the great wave of the mantra stills all other vibrations. Ultimately, the mantra produces a state where the organism vibrates at the rate completely in tune with the energy and spiritual state represented by and contained within the mantra.

At this point, a change of state occurs in the organism. The organism becomes subtly different. Just as a laser is light which is coherent in a new way, the person who becomes one with the state produced by the mantra is also coherent in a way which did not exist prior to the conscious undertaking of repetition of the mantra.

Mantras are tools of power

They are formidable. They are ancient. They work. The word 'mantra' is derived from two Sanskrit words. The first is 'manas' or 'mind,' which provides the 'man' syllable. The second syllable is drawn from the Sanskrit word 'trai' meaning to 'protect' or to 'free from.' Therefore, the word mantra in its most literal sense means 'to free from the mind.' Mantra is, at its core, a tool used by the mind which eventually frees one from the vagaries of the mind.

Chinese Buddhist Chant

The journey from mantra to freedom is a wondrous one. The mind expands, deepens and widens and eventually dips into the essence of cosmic existence. On its journey, the mind comes to understand much about the essence of the vibration of things. And knowledge, as we all know, is power. In the case of mantra, this power is tangible and wieldable.

Mantras seen from the Vedic tradition

Mantras originated in the Vedic tradition of India, later becoming an essential part of the Hindu tradition and a customary practice within Buddhism, Sikhism and Jainism. The use of mantras is now widespread throughout various spiritual movements which are based on, or off-shoots of, the practices in the earlier Eastern traditions and religions.

A mantra is a sound, syllable, word, or group of words that are considered capable of creating spiritual transformation. Their use and type varies according to the school and philosophy associated with the mantra.

These sounds are manifestations of ultimate reality, in the sense of sound symbolism postulating that the vocal sounds of the mantra have inherent meaning independent of the understanding of the person uttering them.

In the Hindu tantra the universe is sound. The supreme (para) brings forth existence through the Word (Shabda). Creation consists of vibrations at various frequencies and amplitudes giving rise to the phenomena of the world. The purest vibrations are the var.na, the imperishable letters which are revealed to us, imperfectly as the audible sounds and visible forms.

Var.nas are the atoms of sound. A complex symbolic association was built up between letters and the elements, gods, signs of the zodiac, parts of the body -- letters became rich in these associations.

Continuous practice of mantra purifies the Consciousness and the mind, and removes the Karmas in much the same way as constantly walking over weeds crushes them. A spiritual Mantra always contains the word OM and the name of the divine incarnation. Mantra works in such a way that the spiritual power contained within the vibration of the word(s) is realized within us. Vibrations can be audible or inaudible. Thoughts and feelings are counted as soundless vibrations. These are no less effective then the spoken word.

Creation consists of vibrations at various frequencies and amplitudes

The Resonance music and the healing sounds are based on the above mentioned principles.

Resonance music is a (on scientific base developed) sound pattern, which consists of a harmonic synthesis of celestial sounds andbrain hemisphere synchronization waves. Thecelestial sounds are based on the vibrations of the Sun, Moon and the planets.

The healing sounds consist of gong, drum and voice improvisations. They create a certain vibration that can uplift us and bring us in a more harmonious and peaceful vibration.
